This tour cannot be done on Mondays.

9.15am (depending on location) Meet and greet with your English-speaking guide / driver in the hotel lobby, from where you will be taken for a short hour drive by luxurious private vehicle to historic Utrecht.

Musical Clock Museum

10.15am  Upon arrival, you will be taken for a guided tour of the Musical Clock Museum, which specializes in self-playing musical instruments. Since 1984, it has been housed in the center of Utrecht in a former church called Buurkerk. Among the instruments on display are music boxes, musical clocks, pianolas, barrel organs (including the typically Dutch large street organs) and a turret clock with a carillon, most of which are still able to play for visitors. Over the years, the museum has become popular nationwide and also internationally. The museum’s restoration workshops are a leader in their field and are known for their excellent standards. www.museumspeelklok.nl

Noon  There is leisure time for lunch in the historical city center, where you will find many local restaurants for a nice lunch.

Railway Museum

1pm  Fully refreshed, there will be a scenic walk through the historical city center to, and guided tour of the Railway Museum. The museum was established in 1927 and was initially located in one of the main buildings of the Nederlandse Spoorwegen (Dutch National Railway) in Utrecht. At that time, the collection consisted mostly of pictures, documents, and small objects. In the 1930s, the first steps were taken to conserve old historically significant rail equipment.

The collection was briefly located in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, but in the 1950s the museum was moved back to Utrecht. The Maliebaan station, which was closed in 1939, was found to be a suitable site. The building was remodeled, and in 1954 the museum reopened there. In this location there was far more room to exhibit the entire collection to the public, including historical rail equipment. The collection currently on display contains, among other things, steam locomotives, electric locomotives, diesel locomotives, train cars, freight cars, and some trams. www.spoorwegmuseum.nl/en
