Flowers and Cheese

The Netherlands

Flowers and Cheese

An itinerary focusing on Holland’s largest export products: flowers and cheese.
This tour can best be done on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.

FloraHolland Flower Auction

7.45am Meet and greet with your English-speaking guide / driver in the hotel lobby, from where you will be taken for a 35-minute drive by luxurious private car or minivan to Aalsmeer, where you are going to visit the world’s largest flower auction Flora Holland. The size of Flora Holland can be compared to the size of Monaco. It is also the largest commercial complex in the world!

See how the auction process works and notice a variety of millions of flowers. This can all be observed from a walkway above the ground. Did you know that on an average auction day 35 million cut flowers are auctioned in more than 15,000 varieties? As everybody else, you will be very amazed.

Greenhouse of a private grower

9.45am We continue with an exclusive tour at a local grower. These visits are very special because normally you can’t visit these growers, which in most cases are family-owned companies. This could be an orchid, rose, tulip, hydrangea, gerbera daisy or any other grower with blooming flowers.

The owner will be there to greet you in person and will guide you through his / her company.

11.15am From here, there will be a 30-minute scenic drive to Lisse, the heart of the bulb district. Here you will be taken to the private home of a Dutch family where you will have a delicious Dutch lunch. Enjoy and talk with the owners and see how they live in their nice modern home. If the weather permits, the lunch will be served in the family garden. A very special experience!

Dairy Farm Zeilzicht

Dairy Farm Zeilzicht

1.15pm Fully charged, we continue with a 45-minute drive to the village of Zuidschermer where you are going to have an exclusive workshop cheese making at cheese farm Zeilzicht, a traditional non-touristy Dutch Farm.

This workshop, where you will make your own cheese from scratch, will take about 2 hours.

Of course, you can take your cheese with you. You will also be taken for a tour through the farm including a visit to a very special milking robot. A surprising visit where you will meet again local people.

4.15pm From here you will be taken back to your hotel in Amsterdam, where you have the remainder of the day for your own leisure. You will arrive back in Amsterdam around 5pm.
