Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam

Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam offers five-star luxury in an historical, uniquely “Amsterdam” ambiance. Furnished with French elegance and grandeur, the hotel welcomes a variety of visitors, from the trendy Amsterdam elite and royal brides to famous international movie stars; everyone knows The Grand.

In each of the rooms, the restaurant, the banqueting halls and the beautiful courtyard garden, design and history converge to extend a warm invitation. Over the course of the centuries, this exquisite Amsterdam landmark has been ripened and enriched by countless special events. During the process, The Grand has also acquired tremendous culinary fame. The cuisine is distinctly influenced by the school of the French grandmaster, Paul Bocuse, the founder of international culinary arts.

It took over two years of extensive renovation and remodelling to produce something truly remarkable: a five-star luxury hotel that meets the highest demands of modern-day travellers. The best way to become a legend, where travel and accommodation are always en vogue. The French interior architect Sybille de Margerie, famous for her work at the legendary Hôtel de Crillon in Paris and Hôtel Cheval Blanc in Courchevel, drew much of her stylish design inspiration from the lively colours of the famous mural by COBRA artist Karel Appel, which is displayed in the entrance to the restaurant area. In addition, she opted for natural, luxury materials such as mahogany, marble and steel. The hotel is a blend of French elegance and Dutch stylistic elements. The tulip and butterfly are recurring themes, and an abundance of magical natural light filters through the city palace.

The building’s rich history is also incorporated in architectural details. Students from the renowned Design Academy in Eindhoven used famous people from the history of the building as a source of inspiration for their creative contributions to the 177 rooms, including 52 suites. Innovation – while retaining the historic character – is also displayed in the renovation of the 17 meeting rooms and banqueting halls, including the Princenhof, or Prince’s Court. The Lobby is an open, welcoming space where contemporary, elegant and comfortable interior design features blend beautifully with the historic ambiance of the building.

Bridges, the restaurant that specialises in sea food, was heralded as one of the top restaurants in the Netherlands within a few months of opening. The culinary creations of the chef are tingling taste buds across the capital. These veritable works of art, classically prepared and of a consistently high quality, have been drawing foodies and Amsterdam residents to Bridges.

So SPA is set across two floors of wellness. It is a lavish urban spa with heated indoor swimming pool (250 m2), treatment rooms, jacuzzi, hammam and sauna. In the treatment rooms, guests can find a wide selection of beauty and relaxation treatments using exclusive Cinq Mondes and Carita products.
The fitness room, So FIT, exclusively features Technogym equipment. The Spa and fitness room are finished in Tadelakt plasterwork, a traditional material commonly used in France. The interior boasts an unmistakably French, luxurious ambiance, featuring exotic woods, velour fabric and eye-catching colours.

To become a market leader, one needs to excel in everything. And that includes fundamental, everyday conveniences. Not a single detail can be left to chance: comfortable beds that are fit for a king, courtesy of the renowned Sofitel “MyBed” sleeping concept, a menu of cushions, Hermès bathroom products, Nespresso coffee and tea facilities, WiFi internet connection, Bose sound system and Philips LCD flatscreen TV in every room. And, of course, the best way to become a legend is to extend a warm welcome and to offer refined services. The daily rituals of the sommelier, the “Les Clefs d’Or” concierge, the housekeeper and the butlers offer considerate and devoted attention, anticipating and meeting the needs of each guest. Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam is the embodiment of hospitality.

During the peak holiday season, over 200 people are employed at The Grand. Many work behind the scenes, and some have worked here for more than 20 years. All of our staff works tirelessly to deliver an unforgettable experience. The Grand prides itself on its consistent personal service, where every job is tailored to meet each guest’s requirements down to the very last detail. That, too, is legendary.
