Hotel De L’Europe

Originally built in 1896, De L’Europe is located in the heart of historic Amsterdam overlooking the Amstel River. Synonymous with refined taste and quiet elegance, De L’Europe is often referred to as the other “Royal Palace of Amsterdam,” continuing to attract the city’s power menagerie and an assortment of the world’s most celebrated names. Fusing its sophisticated ambience and gracious service, the hotel’s distinctive décor also sets it apart, surrounding visitors with original Dutch Masters paintings from the private collection of Alfred “Freddy” Heineken for the quintessential Amsterdam experience.

In the 17th century, Amsterdam was the centre of world economy, where modern architecture developed organically between facades of historical buildings. De L’Europe’s present-day location was originally part of a defense fortress built in 1492 to protect the city; one of its towers was named Rondeel. The fort was demolished in 1633, when the inn “Het Rondeel” was built. More than 200 years later, architect Willem Hamer Jr. began remodeling this mountain stone and red brick building in Renaissance style, which is a now city-designated landmark.

Long considered an oasis of calm in the midst of Amsterdam’s buzzing city centre, the original building was temporarily closed in 2010 for extensive renovations that fused the hotel’s timeless architectural elements with 21st-century comforts and forward design in each of the 111 guest rooms and signature suites, including a peerless 6-bedroom penthouse suite, upon its re-opening in 2011.
The legacy of discreet, old-world style and genuine service remains.

The new all-suite Dutch Masters Wing features prestigious art and creative architecture. Each of the 23 suites boasts a replica of a Dutch Masters painting from the nearby Rijksmuseum as well as magnified details from each work. Several suites, such as the Provocateur, are similar to loft apartments, while others are reminiscent of a modern pied-à-terre, with sliding glass doors that separate the bedroom, living room and entry foyer for added privacy.
Bold and vintage colors from each Dutch Masters painting fuse verve and panache with hints of history while modern design aligns comfort with the latest technology.

De L’Europe is a hub of haute cuisine, boasting a selection of the city’s finest restaurants.
Michelin awarded Bord’Eau offers a culinary adventure where exceptional ingredients are blended to create symphonies of flavor, all complemented by the finest wines from around the globe.
The intimacy of the salon-like setting, the classical simplicity of the décor and the grace and attentiveness of the service suggest high style and privilege overlooking the Amstel River.
Bib-Gourmand awarded Hoofdstad Brasserie offers a culinary master class from its open kitchen as the chef brigade prepares modern French cuisine with an Amsterdam twist.

A favorite haunt of Alfred “Freddy” Heineken, Freddy’s Bar attracts the Amsterdam A-list who flocks to its leather banquettes to savor Bloody Mary, cocktails, gourmet nibbles and lives music.
Adjacent, reminiscent of an old-world gentleman’s club, Freddy’s Fumoir presents a selection of fine cigars and cognacs.

De L’Europe’s Promenade recreates a private art gallery to offer an authentic London Afternoon Tea and an avant-garde cocktail bar with cool live music, all under the watchful gaze of an array of Dutch Masters. Het Terras, meanwhile, brings the riverside to life from spring through to autumn with quirky international cuisine crafted from handpicked seasonal ingredients. Les Caves De L’Europe, the hotel’s 8,000-bottle wine cellar, marries vintages from worlds old and new to accompany chef’s outstanding creations.

Free weights, stationary aerobic machines and a heated indoor pool with eye-level views of the Amstel River awaits in the Fitness Centre.

De L’Europe is convenient located to several of the world’s most heralded museums and Amsterdam’s points of interest. An easy 25-minute drive from Amsterdam’s Schiphol International Airport makes the hotel’s convenient location a top destination for discerning travelers.
