Banks & Money: 
Known banks in the Netherlands are: 
Rabobank, ABN Amro, ING, Fortis, SNS and GWK. 
Banks are normally open between 9am and in some cases 6pm.
On Saturday some banks are open between 9am and 2pm.
 
You can only exchange foreign money and foreing (even Euro) checks at the GWK bank!
You normally find one GWK bank in the larger cities. 
Checks are not accepted at restaurants and stores. Some hotels take them. 
The last time checks where used in the Netherlands was about 25 years ago. 
 
Credit cards are well accepted but not in grocery stores. 
 
Phones: 
There are a large number of providers in the Netherlands, for example:
KPN, Vodafone, T Mobile, Telfort and Orange. 
 
Please make sure you have switched your network to 900 / 1800 GSM or 3G. 
Or put it on automatic.
The USA and Canada have a 1900 network, which does not work in the Netherlands and Europe.
 
Prepaid cards can be bought at telcom, grocery or most book stores.  
For example at the Belcompany, Albert Heijn and AKO stores.
In some cases it is cheaper to buy a prepaid phone with already money on it. 
You already have a prepaid phone from Euro 30,00. 
 
Stores: 
Stores are normally open between 9am and 6pm, Tuesday through Friday.
On Monday stores are opening at 1pm, department stores at 11am.
On Saturday most stores will close at 5pm.
 
Evening opening until 9pm.  
Amsterdam: Thursday. 
The Hague: Thursday.
Rotterdam: Friday 
Utrecht: Thursday 
Maastricht: Thursday. 
Delft: Friday 
 
Sunday opening from Noon until 5pm in Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague. 
Sunday opening, every first of the month from Noon until 5pm in Utrecht and for example Maastricht.
