Four restored synagogues in the heart of Amsterdam’s former Jewish quarter now house the Jewish Historical Museum.
Its central themes are the eventful history of the Jews in the Netherlands and their colorful culture. Religion presents Jewish customs with beautiful ceremonial objects. History of the Jews in the Netherlands 1600-1900 shows how different groups of Jews integrated and emancipated in the Netherlands. History of the Jews in the Netherlands 1900-the present day is brought to life in a display of objects and historical film clips.
In the JHM Children’s Museum, everyone is welcome to visit and find out what Jewish tradition is all about. Come see, enjoy, ask and learn.
Other historical and topical subjects associated with Jewish culture are featured in temporary exhibitions. Regular shows also highlight work by Dutch and international Jewish artists and photographers. Temporary exhibitions of fragile works are shown in the Print Room.
The JHM Museum Café’s menu includes kosher delicacies such as cakes and bagels. The shop offers a selection of tangible memories: Jewish literature and music, postcards, catalogues and fun gifts.
